Your OCR B GCSE Geography Exam Explained with Tim Bayliss

Preparing for your OCR B GCSE Geography Exam can be challenging, especially with multiple GCSE subjects to revise for. That’s why Tim Bayliss, expert author for Oxford Revise, is here to guide you through what to expect and how to approach your Geography exam with confidence.

I’m Tim Bayliss, and I’m Series Editor for the Oxford Revise Geography Revision Guide.

Since GCSE Geography began, I’ve been teaching it – and throughout that time, I’ve developed teaching resources, student textbooks, and revision guides to support learners at every stage.

This new OCR B Guide is absolutely superb. It covers all the essential knowledge, reinforces it through active recall, and highlights the key terms you need to learn. It also builds the skills you’re expected to understand – with revision tips, exam strategies, and hundreds of practice questions included.

How your OCR B GCSE Geography revision guide helps you prepare for the exam?

Just make sure you’re confident with the structure of the exam. Paper 1 focuses on physical topics, and also includes questions on your physical geographical enquiry. To support this, we’ve added a dedicated section in the guide, along with plenty of practice fieldwork questions.

Paper 2 covers human topics, and once again, you’ll be asked about your human fieldwork. To help you prepare, we’ve included targeted practice questions for this too.

What to expect from your OCR B GCSE Geography Exam

Both papers include case studies, and we’ve added examples for every topic in the guide. However, you must check that these match the case studies you studied in class. Also, make sure your notes include organised files for your case studies.

Paper 3 brings together topics from Papers 1 and 2 in a decision-making exercise. The best way to prepare for this paper is through regular practice. You’ll do plenty of this in class, but we’ve also included a section in the guide with tips on how to approach and structure your answers effectively.

Preparing for your OCR B GCSE Geography exam

So, how best to revise? The most effective revision is always structured – it’s planned and organised with the exam papers in mind. From experience, I find that the more effort my students put in, the more they get out of it.

As they invest more time, they begin to anticipate what’s coming next. This, in turn, gives them time to focus on practice exam questions, which helps enormously.

To wrap this up – put the time in, build your confidence, and trust that you’ll get there. Good luck!
