HEATWAVE REVISION HACKS
It can feel hard enough to get your body and brain into revision mode without a heatwave suddenly coming along and adding another thing to cope with.
However, don’t panic! There are simple things that you can do to keep yourself cool and your heatwave revision on track during this time.
On this page you’ll find some tips with the first one definitely suggesting that it’s important to revise with your feet in a paddling pool. Just remember if you do try this, to sit in the shade, put lots of suncream on and don’t drop your laptop or revision guide in the water!

COOL STUDY TIP 1 – Cool your body down slowly
- Dip your hands and feet in cold water
Your wrists and ankles have lots of pulse points where blood vessels are close to the skin. Cooling them down helps to slowly reduce your body temperature.
- Have a cool shower before bed
This also helps to keep your body temperature low and prepare you for a, hopefully, good night’s sleep!
COOL STUDY TIP 2 – Food and drink
- Keep hydrated
Do drink lots of water and isotonic sports drinks can help to replace any salts, sugars and fluids lost throughout the day. Avoid caffeine and hot drinks as these can be dehydrating.
- Eat light meals
The heat can drain your energy and make us feel less hungry but it’s important to keep fuelling our body, so you should try to regularly eat lighter meals.
COOL STUDY TIP 3 – Create a cool revision spot
- Close windows during the day with blinds and curtains closed
We’re fully blocking out the heat getting! Open them up at night when the temperature has dropped.
- Use electric fans
Great during the day (living out your Kate Bush Wuthering Heights dreams) but remember that electrical items produce heat even on standby, so turn off any items not needed at night.
COOL STUDY TIP 4 – Get a good night’s sleep
- Try and stick to your usual routine
This means eating and going to bed at the same time, no matter how tempting it is push everything until it’s a bit cooler.
- Avoid naps during the day
These will disrupt your nighttime sleep patterns and so try to not to nod off!
- Sleep under a thin, cotton sheet
When the temperature outside and your body temperature does drop at night, you will likely need a light cover. Try taking your duvet out of the cover and use just the cover!
